How many of you hunt small game on a regular basis?....My favorite hunting is small game, varmint, and predator...and pests..I find that when I'm not out after deer...the rest of the year is full of hunting opportunities!
...I like to use 5.5" Ruger SS SuperSingleSix or .22 contender..and sometimes my .357 contender...
Who else out there?

I use Ruger's single-six or the Ruger 'Buckeye' .32-20.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

I chase tree rats with a 14" 22lr contender topped with a 2x8 weaver. Sometimes I'll try one with my ruger bearcat.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

no....but i'm set up dandy for "when i can go". a ruger mk3 fluted hunter 22lr with a 2x6 ler scope a 14" 22lr match contender with a 4x16x40 riflescope and a 12"+ fluted OTT 17mach2 contender with a 4x16x40 riflescope very fun, and very accurate in all instances! these type guns require no reloading etc. just grab n go. they are great for blackbirds or any backyard varmint....not even counting the tasty squacks. they make great shooting practice and much cheaper to shoot. everyone needs a rimfire to take along on centerfire range trips too.

My farorite small game gun is a FA 252. This year it has some serious competition from my Paradox revolver though.

I love small game hunting! As for a favorite gun, it would be a toss-up between my 5.5" Ruger Single Six and my 10" open sighted Contender, both in .22lr.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but I regularly use a 7 1/2" FA M97 .22LR with a 2X Leupold; a 6" stainless Ruger Mk. II Standard Mdl. fitted with a Clark trigger by the master himself before his death and wearing a 2X Leupold; a T/C 14" .410; a T/C 10" .22 in SSK Khrome wearing a Gordon Logan Full length rib and 2X Leupold; and finally for late-season squirrels and prairie dogs, a 7 1/2" FA Mdl. 252 wearing a 4X Leupold.

hunt small game on a regular basis?... no....but I’m set up dandy for "when I can go!" I’m with KYODE! I just hunt when ever I can get the chance!! For critters I like to use my Ruger MKII or my Contender in 221 Rem fireball. The Ruger is 6in slab barrel with irons and the 221 wears a 2.5- 8 Weaver.

Glad to see that hunting the small stuff hasn't gone forgotten!..It seems that a lot of the guys that I talk to around here don't care to much for the small game, varmint and predators?..Don't know why....I find excitement in shoot'n mice, english sparrows, and starlings! (English sparrows and starlings have no closed season in MO...invasive species).....Groundhogs are thick around here...and coyotes are even thicker....

Being from Illinois, I've hunted small game most of my life. Most game taken with S&W K22 of one form or another. Even took a coyote with my M27 5", once. Steve

Iv'e always been a big squirrel hunter ever since I started. Started with single shot shotgun, up to the pump, then the ruger 10/22, then a savage 22lr/20g over under-now thats a nice versatile gun!! Now with my pistol obsession its been the browning buckmark-nickel with laminate grips fiberoptic front site. Thats been the squirrel killer last 3-4 yrs. I enjoy shooting squirrels just as much as deer!!

Here is what I have used for 22 years- began with a Leupold 2X, then my eyesight went to hell, now a MatchDot. Built by Mag-na-Port and SSK. Grips are by Larry Davidson.

I use a Ruger MK I with a tactical solutions barrel. A Buckmark with tactical solutions barrel or a 22 Hornet in a 12 inch contender or 15 inch encore for the longer stuff. MK I Ruger and Buckmark Encore in 22 Hornet

For some serious squirrel hunting I use my contender 14" 45/410 barrel also good for grouse and rabbit. Then for longer range there is the 10"22LR barrel with 2-6 scope.for just bumming around the woods I use my single six.

it was my 45-70 BFR and no I'm not kidding. In eastern Oregon you can't hunt gray squirrels so all that's left are un edible such as the ground squirrels and rock chucks. I'd wait to find a ground squirrel on top of one of the big rock formations that were common where I lived and I'd aim at their feet. The trick was to graze the rock sending the squirrel into space. My best was about 100 feet in the air and about 200 feet from where he had been standing, about like a decent football punt. It got to be quite the game, of course my wussy brother in law would bring his 22 or 38 and he was afraid of my guns so I always won. I also always won in numbers killed because even a near miss was fatal if you missed low since the hard cast would explode and pieces of the boulder and bullet would shred the little suckers into many many unrecognizeable parts.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I love carrying my Ruger MkII target probably the best. Its just hard to beat a good .22 for kicking around. Also I have a 10" 32H&R mag contender, that sees good use. With my handloads, it carries its message out to about 75yds or so with authority. I have a .357 Dan wesson, with an extra scoped barrel I sometimes swap on, and carry afield with .38spl round nose handloads. Its nearly as accurate as my 32 contender, and packs a solid, yet mild wallop.

Hey wyote, is the tactical solutions barrel really worth that extra money on the buckmark--not been having great luck with my buckmark for squirrels and was thinking a new barrel might help. Would you suggest the 7.25" or 5.5", open sights of course...one for auction (7.25") with tact soln trutrac base $185, wondering if should jump on?

You like the tylers grip adapter on it???
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Lamina I don't have any 22's that will keep 10 shots in and inch at 25 yards............but these barrels will! If I were going to carry in a holster I would buy the 5.5 barrel. BUT if I were going to scope it I'd go with the longer barrel.

Ruger single 6 w/the .22 mag.cyl.in place or a Marlin 25M in .22 Mag. The single six is freakin'fantastic for close shots,I took a "limb rat" at just about a 100 yds. Friday w/the Marlin-just my 2 cents...... I only have a cheap green-dot on my .17HMR at this time-the dot seems to cover too much sqauck and impedes tight aiming--soon to change though....

Here is the only revolver that I use now (I used to use a 6" Llama also)....a Super Single Six....mostly with the Long Rifle cylinder...I have a Leopold scope mount that I modified years ago to fit the pistol to use with the magnum cylinder....but it mostly wears the open sights lately....

Boy that's tough . . depends on the mood I'm in. I like a stainless 5.5" Single Six. Also like using a 4" S&W 617, or when I want to go as compact and light as possible a 3" S&W 317. - - -
