hello all. my name is ben. i live in south western pa and work in the construction industry as well as a couple part time small business with my family. started hunting at 12 but got away from it for many years. got back into the woods a few years back and then decide to try handgun hunting. got a smith 657 and took a whitetail doe first time out with it. carried it one more year, but didn't get another shot. ultimately, didn't like the way the gun felt so i sold it and got a fa 97 in 41 just last year. can't wait to get out in november for bear, the first serious hunt we will be doing for those, and deer a week or so later. hope to add a single shot handgun, maybe the new fa, but the moa extreme looks pretty nice and looks not so pricey. maybe a 30-30 or one of the 6.5 cartridges. hope to learn a lot here...

Hello all, my name is Al. I live just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I never got into hunting until 1997 at age 22, and didn't get bit by the handgun hunting bug until 2002. Since then I have taken WT deer, black bear, coyotes, and wild boar with success. Also, there is the mixed back of small game as well. When not hunting, I enjoy short/long range target practice from field shooting situations/positions. To date, my longest shot has been 147 yards. I look forward to reading and sharing some posts.

The Tools:

S&W 29 44 mag 6 inch
S&W 629 Backpacker 2 inch
S&W 657 41 mag 7..5 inch
Ruger Alaskan 454
Ruger SBH 44 mag 10.5 inch
FA Premier 454 10.5 inch
MR BFR 475 Linebaugh 7.5 inch
MR Lone Eagle 358 Winchester

A "Hello" to all.

Randy here, from South-Eastern PA. I'm new to handgun hunting and have only been hunting for 2 years now (late starter).

I am the proud owner of a Contender (well, ok, a couple of Contenders) and a Remington XP-100r that I absolutely had to have. Being a huge fan and owner of numerous Remington 700's, the XP was a "have too have" when the right opportunity presented itself.

I have to say that this is one of the best sites that I have visited so joining was a no-brainer. I've read some excellent posts and the amount of information here is almost overwhelming.

Thanks
Randy

Hello,

I am from Minnesota. I am looking at starting to use my Ruger SBH to hunt, as I have done the archery, shotgun, rifle, and muzzle-loader deer hunting with success here in MN.

I look forward to picking the brains of some of you experienced handgun deer hunters.

Hi Ya'll, John from Elpaso, The (great) state of Texas. Just getting into handgun hunting this year. Was a long gun hunter and it sorta lost it's appeal. Looking forward to enjoying the challenge of handgun hunting. I have many hours on the bench and reload my ammo. Just a quick Hello to everyone.

Greetings everyone, Dick Thompson here, I'm almost 65 & my wife & I reside in SE Idaho, a hunters paradise!
Texas is my second home, spent 4 yrs there in the AF in the 60's, our oldest 2 kids are Texans, that makes me part Texan!
Started hunting very early with rifles, kind of got tired of them & went to Ruger #1 single shots, had several, they also started to take the excitement out of the hunt so I started using single shot handguns, at one time had 41 barrels, mostly by Bullberry, Fred Smith, the owner & I hunted Africa in 2001 with handguns, I also used a FA 475, the single shots eventually lost their shine & I took another step backwards & went with nothing but revolvers. The 2-5 hundred yd shots with the single shots just took the fun out of it, at least for me.
I feel that no one really ever masters the revolver, its a challenge everytime I walk out the door, I shoot 4-5 times a week, year round. I've been fortunate to hunt Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Montana, Alaska & Africa using handguns, it never looses its excitement with a revolver, I've never once regretted choosing & staying with a sixgun for the last several years, I've went home empty handed more than once but the excitement is always there. I truly would rather shoot a doe or a cow elk that a big buck or bull with anything else, just me.

Dick

Hi my name is Lee. I live in northern Minnesota. I just signed on today after I found this site searching for sites dealing with BFR after market grips. I also own a Blackhawk in .45 a Redhawk in .44 a TC with 2 barrels 2 Ruger MKI's then theres my wifes Trooper and for varmints she carries a SP 101 DAO with the laser grips. I enjoy (besides shooting and hunting) motorcycling camping fishing leather work and playing with my granddaughter. I've just recently gotten back into hunting shooting after an 18 year hiatus from the sports. So far I have enjoyed what I have seen on this site and hope to be able to contribute soon. Lee

Hi, just joined today. From Hemphill Tx. Been handgun hunting off and on for the last three years since I retired from the Air Force. I shoot a Ruger Super Blackhawk and love it. Have taken several hogs with it. Posted a post asking about scopes. Eyesight going bad. But I sure do like the advantage of carrying it instead of the rifle. Being disabled I can carry the handgun a lot further the the old heavy 30-06. So HOWDY YA'LL.

I'm Chris and fairly new to Handgun hunting. Tried it a little when I was younger( 18 years ago) when I bought a SW 629 DX Classic. Didn't have the patience for it then. I do now. I had FA build me a model 83 in .475L and topped it with a 4x Leupold. I can group 2.5" at 100 yards with a bipod. Looking for my first Whitetail with a handgun and a hog too here in Charleston, SC

Hi, My name is Vic. I have been a part time handgun hunter since the mid 80's reading Bob Milek and Hal Swigget. I hunted mostly with wheel guns in .44, .45, .454, but I also bought a xp in 7br back in 85 that I used for target and varmits. I got a T/C encore in 7mm-08 a few years back but I never really left my rifle at home. I usually carried both. After finding this sight I have hunted only with the T/C or the XP. This stuff is addictive. After reading some of Earnie's posts I decided to get Kirby to build me a gun, so I went to the local gun shop to find a used XP. I didn't want to change the one I already have. They didn't have a used one, BUT they had a .221 Fireball NIB!!!.I bought it and then decided to leave it unchanged also. I now have another xp in 221 from gun broker on the way and it is going to Kirby to convert to a 6.5 WSM right after Christmas.

Happy New Year! My name is Jack and I am in Louisiana. I am just getting back into the handgun hunting scene since I had to sell all my hunting handguns while going thru the Big "D" in 1990. I just purchased a TC Contender 14" in 44 Mag and I have an SS Encore 15" in SW 460 that's in the mail on it's way here. I have a H&R 45-70 Gov't SS Ultra Hunter with laminate thumbhole stock that I love so a TC/Encore 1n 45-70 Gov't is probably in the works too.

My name is Bob (K-9 SAR). I'm a retired police sergeant, with 35 years of service. I served in the K-9 Unit as a Police Officer for 5 yrs. I was promoted to Sgt. in 74'. Went back to K-9 as the C.O. in 83' I retired in 2001 at the age of 58. Have been shooting handguns since I was ten, with my Dad, who was also a police Officer. I purchased a Ruger SRH 44 Mag. 7 1/2" and just ordered a Leupold FII 2x scope for it. Have been a hunter all my life, with bow, shotgun,& rifle. Thought I'd try handgun hunting. Did not see a deer I'd want to shoot this year, so I'm going to practice with the scope and get ready for next season. I'm getting some great info. from this site. I also surfcast, and travel with my wife, who has been real good about my hunting and fishing expeditions. Much thanks to those who started this site.

Hello everyone. My name is Dan. My stompin' grounds are S.E. Michigan. I've been a wheelgun junkie since the age of 14 when pops let me shoot his Super Blackhawk with some watered down handloads. I was hooked!!! I shot alot of Speer plastic bullets in the garage until my 18th birthday when I bought my first SBH Hunter with a Tasco Pro Point scope. I was like Ralphy from "A CHRISTAS STORY" with my Red Rider BB gun! * Here we go... Im ramblin' again!!! Long story short: went 5 years no handguns due to Arthritis in right hand. The new Emberal shots worked, started shooting my Woodsman more. Yesterday, bought a SRH in .44 with gel grip. Feels real nice! Can't wait to break her in!

Hi guys. I live in the beautiful state of Colorado where I have hunted archery only until about two years ago. I am at the point where I like nowing when I shoot something it dies and feeds the family. I jumped into hand gun hunting a little over my head by purchasing a contender with a 375 jdj barrel. The cool thing is I get to reload which I am getting hooked on. I go out to shoot just so I can reload one evening. I cant wait to hunt with the pistol and think now after shooting it I am going to be hooked for quite some time.
