Get the BFR and decide if you like the caliber. You can always sell it and get an FA at a later date. The BFR is a minimal investment (when it comes to a .475 Linebaugh that is!). I'm telling you, I love FAs, but there is really nothing wrong with BFRs -- they are a lot of gun for the money and they shoot really well.
If you have to save for two summers to get the Freedom, you will miss out on a whole year of play with a .475!

I haven't shot either one of those guns but from what I've seen at my gun shop the BFR looks like its one fine revolver and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I had the funds.

Whit makes a strong argument - shop for a used BFR in 475 that you could unload if you saw the need to upgrade or go away from the caliber.
Or sell to some nice fellow handgun hunter here on the forum...:)

Get the BFR for now, & then in 2 yrs you can get the Freedom & you'll have both! If I were to go SA I think the BFR would be my choice just for finances sake. So far the 480 SRH is plenty for me! I'm really enjoying it.

I wouldn't hesitate on the BFR at all and another option is a custom Blackhawk or if you like double actions whitworth has some pics of custom Redhawks but me personally I prefer single actions and that's what I shoot and build now. Normally they will fall in between the BFR and FA although you normally have to supply the donor gun although some outfits may already have some built.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I am an FA nut. However, I have nothing against BFRs --- except my friend in Ohio "jugged the cylinders in his BFR in 500 S&W." Apparently, that cylinder escaped the "heat treatment." BFR fixed it for him.
I have fired several of them. I have no complaint with the accuracy. With Blackie's coaching I hit the steel targets at 400+ yds with the 500 S&W.
As has been posted before, the finish & the workmanship is not up to FA standards. However, it is far above Ruger standards. It is up to you. If I were in your situation, I would likely buy one now.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I love my BFR. I have both a 6" scoped FA and a 7.5" iron sighted BFR in .454 Casull. If I had to let one go (I hope that never happens), it would be the FA. I have nothing against my FA and I use it a lot, but the BFR is my "go to gun". IMO the free wheeling cylinder is a big plus for the BFR.

14CM if you decide on the 475 BFR, something to think about is the 7 1/2 barrel is actually 8 1/8 inchs long.
The good words i'm hearing about the BFR makes me think i most have gotten a lemon.

14cm,
I thought everyone here had a chronic case of the "wants." In my case is it not only chronic but mostly also acute. I am always in "heat" for something that I do not have. NEED has nothing to to with it. I have a safe full that I do not NEED. However, FA is suppose to ship my other single shot next week. With one FA SS already & about ten TCs plus an assortment of revolvers, I do not need another. However, I wanted it. In my books that is all that counts.
Go get'em tiger.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I picked up a "slightly used" 6 1/2" 475/480 BFR earlier this year with a 2X Nikon and Burris mount and rings for $600. MRI has discontinued this caliber and the remaining stock was sold to CDNN Investments. CDNN ran a special on them earlier this year for $499!
