I got a whopper of a hog this morning at the Texana. He weighed 225 lbs. 94 yard shot with my FA 475. He dropped in his tracks. The shot was high enough to interfere with his spine. He stretched the width of the truck bed.

Congrats Gary!! What a nice porker.....great shot too. That sucker is as long as the truck is wide. I betcha he had a little odor about him.
Y'all make me jealous with all this success. Seems like me and my shootin' irons got some bad charma or something......not much in the way of animals around us so far....
Anyway, glad you had a great hunt, you deserve it.

Way to go! That is a nice hog. Is that a hunting ranch where you took the hog?

Gary, He`s a classic lookin boar....Look at the size of his shoulder. You handgunned one nice boar. What was the load in your 475??? I'm shooting the Speer 325 with 30.5 gr. of 296 and a Federal Magnum LP Match primer and Starline brass. He's definitely going on the wall. I did take him on a hunting ranch but they don't have a large population of hogs because they are shot on sight for all intents. I'm actually guiding for the ranch and I was sitting in a blind photographing deer while a client was in another blind when the hogs showed up. They don't charge for hogs so that's a bonus if you're hunting with us.

Well done, nice Boar. If you dressed the Boar out, what was the wound channel like? Did the bullet exit?

The bullet didn't exit, it got caught up in the spine, and I took him whole to the taxidermist. The guy I was guiding had to leave for a business trip and I didn't have a lot of time to fool around with the pig as I had to get him squared away to catch his flight. In any case, he dropped in his tracks and fully expired within about 30-45 seconds.

I've really been impressed with the 475. It doesn't recoil terribly and hits very hard.

I've really been impressed with the 475. It doesn't recoil terribly and hits very hard. Gary's 475 is a great gun with very moderate recoil for its hitting power. I've tested it so I can tell...

Put a 420 grain bullet on top of 27 grains of 296 and it will kick really hard Actually I have and don't find the recoil to be bothersome. As others have said the recoil on a 475 seems to have more of a push, it just doesn't seem as sharp as some others I've shot.

It's like a .454 but with a heavier push -- if loaded to its potential.

BFR's shoot great but I'm definitely not a fan of the hard kickers with the grip frame they use. I haven't shot the 500 Smith in BFR but I have shot the 500 JRH and I find it absolutely brutal with 350's running around 1500 in comparison.
