Hi Folks! I'm new to this board and new to handgun hunting, so let me make an introduction. This is a doe (my second deer ever!) that I harvested in Iowa this past Sunday. She was quartering towards me (55yards) and the bullet entered between the neck and left shoulder and exited just behind the right shoulder, leaving about a 1-1.5 inch exit wound. She dropped in her tracks! Setup: 460 S&W Magnum Performance Center 10.5 inch BBL w/ 2X Leupold scope. Load: 275 grn Barnes XPB over 37.4 grns AA #9 in a Hornady case.

PistolPig,
Welcome to the site and congratulations!
I have the same gun topped with a Leupold variable - I need to take a page out of your book and try the Barnes...
Keep laying 'em out with the Wheelgun!

Nice doe and a nice setup conrats, this is also my first season to hunt with a handgun. I have had it out three times so far but nothing that I wanted to shoot has shown up.

I have to say that is a great deer, any deer with a handgun is a real trophy.
I find it interesting that Iowa allows handgun hunting but not center fire rifle for deer. I know it is just a westerners thought process but it is very curious to me. Good for you they let you hunt with wheelguns though...

Thanks everyone!
SC-Yeah, those Barnes are very devastating. Even though the exit wound was not huge and the bullet was traveling about 3 inches below the back, the entire spine was mush. Very impressed with these bullets!
Fowler-Iowa has a lot interesting concepts about hunting. For example, many believe it takes at least 5 shotgun slugs to down a deer...

Welcome to the sight Pig! Great looking handgun and great shooting! Ant animal taken with a handgun is a trophy in my opinion, big or small.

Congrats on a fine trophy and welcome to HH!
