Well…. when it's cold and dark in the Land of the Midnight Sun a guys gotta do sumthin!
Since there is no Instruction Manual for a 454 Redhawk, I figured I better get the instructions to read the Instruction Manual off the barrel. This could cause a point of confusion for some poor soul and who knows what they might do! And, since the cylinder is marked 454 Casull and 45 Colt, no need to have .45 Colt on the other side of the barrel. After all, it might cause a point of confusion as well.
Here's how it turned out...

I started with this since I didn't have any nice little files...
I lightly ran it over the lettering just until it removed it, maybe a faint hint of it left. No deeper. Then I broke out the sand paper and hand sanded it down mostly with my thumb. I think it was 320grit. I used a small leather sheath from a knife as sort of a sanding block at times. Rigid yet it conformed to the curve of the barrel. I just sanded down the high spots, etc. and blended it in. I taped over the engraving I wanted to leave. I then finished it up with steel wool. Some guys use a scotchbrite pad for the finish they want. My ended up great the way I did it.
That's the only thing I DON'T like with Ruger handguns! I guess it's a liability thing, like the lady who spilled hot coffee on her lap while driving and sued McDonalds because it was too hot.
