Nice lookin deer, and the little guy sure looks exited. Doesn't look like he's ready to give up that single six anytime soon.

Pab,

The 9-point pictured was taken with my 6.5/270 JDJ, shooting 129 gr SST's over 4831SC. That Encore barrel accounted for 3 deer and 1 hog this past year with great results!

I don't have many pics of my animals, seems I always forget the camera or just space it. This on though is the toughest shot I've ever pulled off. I took him at a measured 115yds on a dead run with my 4 5/8" 475 off hand.

yep it took three shots, two while he was haulin the mail up the mountain straight away from me and the last shot I had the lead down and he had turned heading across in front of me from left to right and I believe it was about 5 or 6 dog lengths and about a foot or so high because it was steep up hill probably 45 deg.

On that same trip I caught one out past 200 yds and with the same gun I blew dirt all over him as I hit about a foot low.

Great pics everyone. There are few things that are as rewarding as a handgun harvested animal.

Here are a couple of my favorites...

This one was taken close to Gonzalez Texas with a scoped TC Encore in 7-08 at about 65 yards.
[img][/img]

This old bruiser was taken on my lease near Junction, Texas with my a Ruger SBH in .44 mag. Iron sights at about 45 yards.

A little of everything really. The zebra was shot with a .44 Mag. One of the deer was shot with a .45 Colt, one with a .454 and one with a .475. The elk was shot with a .475 but I've also shot elk with 454's and 44 magnums. Bullets have ranged from hard cast to jacketed HP's and soft points.

What is this "cooler weather" you speak of? Winter in Texas usually comes on a Thursday when the temperature drops below 75 for a morning. But...it's a humid, wet, cold. Brrrr

For the zebra it was a 2x Leupold and for the whitetail it was a Bushnell Elite 3200. They were different guns....

This was one of those hunts where you tell your friends
"you had to be there" because it was so quiet and still in the woods that I heard the big snowflakes hit the ground, heard the sound of a crows wings as it flew low through the forest. I believe the year was 1989 in northwest Pennsylvania...

that is my favorite time to be in the woods.
i know exactly what you mean about hearing the snowflakes hit the ground
when it's soo still it seems like they are falling in slow motion.

this will sound cheezy, but it's magical. the only way to describe it.

All these animals harvested with pistols or should I say handguns is very impressive indeed. Great effort and congrats to all of you and thanks for sharing. I'm interested in handguns but rules and regulations in Australia make it very difficult to own let alone keep a handgun at home. As for hunting I'm not sure what the law states but I'm living my dreams through you fellas. So please keep em coming and good shooting to you all.

Chico,

for us outside the States, handgun hunting almost always means going abroad. The Northern Territory of your great country used to allow handgun hunting earlier but I believe that was changed about ten years ago. In my country handgun hunting has never been legal, except for the killing of trapped animals such as small furbearers and the like.

But if you go abroad, e.g. to the US - though with the strong exceptions of New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, foreigners can't possess handguns there - you can have a great time handgun hunting. As can be proved by some of my modest efforts below:

my daughters are primarily into riding horses these days but they're young (7 & 5) and very interested in my hunting endeavors. So one day they will hopefully join me in the field! As can be seen below though, they liked the ram mount very much...
