I agree with JWP.
Just a look at the 240 gr XTP shows a good deer bullet, yet stop and think. I shot a few behind the shoulder and recovered every bullet. No back tracked blood trails. How about bone or quartering shots?
Go to the 300 gr and you have bone smashing along with better penetration.
A hard cast with a good meplat works.
A hollow point on a hard cast does nothing, might shatter the nose. Use the right alloy for some expansion and a hollow point is OK if you retain penetration.
It is always bullet performance inside the animal before exit. You really do want bullet exit.
JWP is on the money that all jacketed are not equal either, some for light skinned and some for big and tough.
