yeah.....30-30 makes the most sense for you imo. the contender is a smaller gun also and may allow you an easier learning curve. i'd twice rather use the contender for deer hunting than the encore for size/weight reasons. I have both, and have used both. 30-30 rifle AND handgun....that's the clincher lol.
