I use to call for them using a 1911 and occasionally would use a 44, 45 Colt or whatever fit my fancy that day. Those within 60 yards were usually harvested while my success was very limited much beyond 80 to 300 yards. I never saw any reason to quite shooting until the coyote/fox was out of sight or the handgun was empty.

With the fur prices being up in my neck of the woods these days, I now tote an AR with me/us when we call, as we are no longer just messing around out there - there's money at the end of the barrel now.

On thing about using the handgun - I found that the red dot is far superior for me than irons on coyotes attempting to break the sound barrier.
