I love my XP. Had it built in .284 and absolutely love it. At Ernie's Wyshot, I made shots with XP100's that I would never have dreamed of. Shot a steel prairie dog at 1176 yards. A gong at what must have been 50+ miles. Picked off prairie dogs at ease between 200 and 300 yards with a 20 Vartarg. These bolt pistols are capable of a LOT more than people give them credit for.
As for this new Remington... I'd try one in the right caliber. I don't like the looks of it, but I'd still try it. I'd send it off immediatly and have it changed to a 223 or a 243.
Not all bird dogs are pretty either.
