458 LOTT Range Report

This project came into being a little fast than expected. It's part of the "what if bug".

SSK 15-inch Encore 1.010? diameter barrel with Fish Gill Brake \ Burris 3x12 \ 4 Warne Steel rings \ SSK 3 screw flat bottom forend \ 1-14? twist \ Weighs 7.70 pounds.



Brass: Hornady 458 LOTT
Primers: CCI-250
Bullets: Barnes 300 TSX, Barnes 350 TSX, Hornady 300 HP, Speer 350 FP

Powder:

Velocity: Recorded by Lab Radar
Hornady 300 HP (COL 3.380) 80.0 = 2544fs \ 82.0 = 2540fs \ 84.0 = 2641fs
Barnes 300 TSX (COL 3.600) 80.0 = 2545fs \ 80.5 = 2574fs \ 81.0 = 2592fs \ 83.0 = 2627fs \ 84.0 = 2669fs
Pet Load = 300 TSX (COL 3.575) 81.0 = 2600fs (Set +1.5 inch high at 100Y)
Barnes 350 TSX (COL 3.600) 77.0 = 2426fs \ 78.0 = 2447fs \ 79.0 = 2467fs

I have not had a chance to stretch it out to 200 yards yet, maybe this weekend.
When compared to the 458 Win Mag in a 14? barrel, the Lott runs about 250fs faster.
I have not tested any bullet weight heavier than 350 grains.

Conclusion:
Accuracy excellent.
The weight of the Encore and fish gill brake do a great job taming the recoil which is a little brisk but fun to shoot.
