I agree, that is why I have moved to Jacketed. They are better than they used to be and usually repeatable/consistent. My lead bullet casting for hunting always did better to have water dropped large caliber for two full caliber holes. But I never delved into the hunting with the Hollowpoint molds that I have and I never tried softening the nose of water dropped bullets. Lots of options to try if cast is a must have for you. With all that said I did take a nice buck with 180 gr WFN from my 4 inch 686 this year. It is the one bullet that shoots so good that I have not found a hunting bullet to replace it with.
