Thanks guys for the support. This is the most points on a rack I have taken.
Our season started last Saturday and runs for nine days. I hunted the first two days and saw nothing, no deer movement at all where I was hunting. Monday morning brought rain, not good for black powder, and didn't stop until Wednesday night. I woke up Thursday morning to no rain. I quickly grabbed my stuff and headed out getting in my ladder stand before daylight. Just after the sun came up the wind got stronger and it started to drizzle. I sat for about two hours and the combination of getting soaked, the wind shaking the tree and stand, and just above freezing temperatures I got down to get dry and warm. About 1:00 it stopped raining and the sun make it's first appearance since it went down Sunday night. I got back in the stand around 3:45 and had two slickheads show up about 4:20 easing off just before 5:00. Just after 5:00 from the opposite direction this buck came strolling in headed toward a scrape about 50 yards away. I didn't hesitate and quickly grabbed the Encore and rested on my shooting stick, settled the crosshairs behind his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. At the shot he lunged forward head down and ran directly in front of me. I sat there trying to gather myself watching him go down. After getting down and checking on him I said a prayer to thank God and the deer for another great opportunity and memory.
