Just got back from Texas (Handgunner's Heaven), and thought I would fess up about my hunt...

Saw this buck working his way towards me across a BIG wheat field - started out at over 300 yards, and finally made his way in to 108. Had been scoping him with a new Pro Hunter in 7 Mag, but put it away when he got in pistol range. Reached around and got the FA 454 - one of 2 virginal pistols on the trip with me. Maybe it was the cold, maybe it was the wind, but I know it was the nerves! Pulled the shot and shot low...the deer wheeled and ran away from me and behind a finger of trees. I thought all was lost and was stepping on my bottom lip when he started looping back to the left and out across the field. Stopped at 252 to look back over his shoulder.

Moral of the story - don't look back!

Great hunt, great times, but wished it could have been with the pistol. At least I broke in one of my guns!
